5 key public transport trends revealed in our Global Economic Outlook 2024
Every other year, UITP conducts a survey to gauge the financial health and future of public transport organisations across the world. Discover the five public transport trends the survey highlighted, from the rising demand to increasing fare revenues, among others.

The Future of Buses in Europe: Results of Europe Bus Fleet Survey 2023
The bus market in Europe is changing. Across the continent, bus fleets are both growing and becoming cleaner. For many bus operators and authorities alike, improving sustainability is an enormous challenge. Ambition is great – but it must go together with realistic targets and feasible expectations of capacity. With that said, the results of our Bus Fleet Survey 2023 indicate that the bus sector is moving in the right direction.

10 statistics of women in transport that show why public transport matters
Public transport is the backbone of an equal opportunity society. Accessible and reliable mass transit allows people to live their daily lives by connecting them to sport, employment, education, and essential services – and it does so without the significant paywall and commitment that comes with a private car. In this post, we explored how more, and better public transport is crucial to creating a gender-equal society.
Advocating to advance public transport
In 2024, UITP has continued to advance public transport positioning and recognition on the national and international scenes, engaging with over 110 decision makers and international organisations to consolidate and further develop our advocacy and outreach mission.
SHAPING
EU POLICY
With a new European Commission and Parliament, our European department has already committed to working closely with EU institutions to represent the views of our members — public transport operators and authorities - and provide policy recommendations on key legislative initiatives.
We began 2024 with an impactful participation in a European Parliament hearing on the future of public transport, highlighting the urgent funding challenges faced by the sector.
New and continuing partnerships
The power of partnering with our new and continuing partnerships
We know that partnership gives our sector more power to advance a better future for all. Working alongside other organisations allows UITP to promote sustainable, safe, and accessible mobility. - CAF, Development Bank of Latin America and the Caribbean
- UCCI, Union of Ibero-American Capital Cities
- UN-HABITAT, The United Nations Human Settlements Programme
