EU POLICY

In 2023, the EU took many initiatives impacting local public transport, and our team of EU experts led the adoption of key position papers such as on the revision of the CO2 standards for heavy-duty vehicles, on the revision of the driving licenses directive or on multimodal digital mobility services. To reinforce our advocacy work, we published a report on ‘EU Investments in the local public transport sector: Insights from the 2014-2020 financial programming’ and a statement with ETF on the Recovery and Resilience Facility.

Press & media

UITP engages daily with the international press and media to promote the work of our experts and members in advancing sustainable urban mobility. The UITP Press Office is often the first point of outreach for transport-focused journalists.

More than 6,900 press and media articles were published on UITP during 2023, coming from 84 countries. This is the highest amount of press coverage since records began, with record numbers also being achieved in top tier press engagement with the world's most recognisable and respected outlets.

Almost 3,000 of these articles were published on the UITP Global Summit in Barcelona, where press coverage reached a record high for any UITP event in the history of the association. Press Office engagement with international journalists also grew to new heights, with more than 250 members of the media joining UITP at the 2023 Summit.

With new growth in locations and languages around the world, UITP output has helped to drive the direction of the press who focus on public transport and urban mobility.
